5 Ways to Slow Down Skin Aging

How to slow down skin aging

It is a sad fact that of life that we will all inevitably age, and the part of our body that will have the most obvious change is on our skin.

By the time we reach our 40s, you will definitely see the difference no matter your beauty regimen. This can manifest in the form of wrinkles, eye bags, saggy skin, warts, and overall decrease of skin quality.

Fortunately, there are many ways by which you can delay the inevitable. Just because you’re getting on in years does not mean that you have to look your age, right?

By following these five tips, you can ensure that you will still have radiant, glowing, and youthful skin that will do wonders for how you look and how you feel no matter how old you get.

Avoid Sun Exposure

While exposure to the sun is beneficial to our health, too much sun does the reverse. Not only does it promote skin aging, but it can also lead to disease such as skin cancer.

If you need to get exposed to sunlight, limit it to around 15 to 30 minutes early in the morning or late in the afternoon when the sun’s rays are not too strong. Avoid the sun especially around noon when the sun is high.

It is also not recommended to go sunbathing. A natural tan may look good, but it can severely damage your skin and cause it to age faster. This holds true even when using tanning beds.

If you need to get a tan, we recommend that you use a self-tanner instead. If this is not possible, then ensure limited sun exposure as well as using sunblock.

The sunblock of your choice must be SPF 30 or higher. Apply this even when you are not on the beach and re-apply as needed to give you constant protection against the sun and harmful UV rays.

Eat Healthy

Eating healthy makes you healthy inside and out. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fats coming from sources such as dairy and fish can do wonders to your skin.

Find foods that are rich in anti-oxidants, omega-3, B vitamins, and calcium as these minerals have been known to help reverse the signs of aging.

Other foods that we recommend include broccoli, avocado, papaya, blueberries, and a wide variety of nuts. You can also boost your intake of anti-aging vitamins and minerals through dietary supplements.

When it comes to foods to avoid, limit or eliminate intake of sugary or processed foods as well as those that contain refined carbs. Consumption of meat can also be limited.

Make sure also to not overeat as obesity can also contribute to aging. Regular exercise can not only help you maintain a regular and healthy weight, but it helps promote a youthful glow that will also show on your skin.

Avoid Vices

Vices such as drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes are universally accepted to be bad habits. Another negative effect of these vices will come in the form of premature aging.

Alcohol and tobacco can dry up your skin. They rob you of essential nutrients that should have been spent on keeping your skin young and supple.

The negative effect of illegal substances are similar to smoking and drinking. As such, it is not unusual to see an addict to look far older than someone of the same age or older who practices clean living.

If you have harmful vices that cause premature aging on your skin and potentially other harmful conditions, it is recommended that you stop immediately.

While it may be difficult to reverse the negative effects of vices on your skin, it can actually be done for as long as you quit early and start living a healthier lifestyle.

Avoid Irritating Your Skin

There are some things that you do that you do not know are hurting your skin. Simple actions such as scrubbing vigorously or using strong astringents can irritate your skin and cause it to age faster.

This is due to the body’s natural response to stress. As your skin is exposed to stressful stimuli, it will slowly adapt. Unfortunately, this will result in rougher and older-looking skin.

As such, it is important that you gently scrub your skin when washing it. You should also avoid products that sting or burn when used, and you should also ensure that they contain natural ingredients.

When it comes to other irritants, make sure to protect yourself from pollutants such as dust or smoke. These can also affect your skin if you are exposed to these long term.

Scratching at your skin should likewise be avoided. There are many natural balms and creams that can help soothe itchy skin. These also have an added effect of promoting good skin health.

Use Skin Care Products

The use of skin care products is highly recommended if you want younger looking skin well into your advanced years. There are a slew of products such as moisturizers, creams, and masks that can provide these benefits.

When choosing skin care products, make sure that they contain natural ingredients that cannot harm your skin. Make sure also to use them regularly to get the maximum effect.

Some of the best skin care products are those that contain coconut or olive oil, avocados, aloe vera, honey, or milk. These products have been clinically proven to help reverse the skin’s aging process.

You can also create some great skin care recipes at home using regular items. A simple search on the Internet can reveal some all-natural ingredients that you and your skin will greatly benefit from.

One item that you can use when looking for an off the shelf product or DIY skin care recipe is dead sea salt. Products with dead sea salt help stimulate natural oil and anti-oxidant production in the body.

Dead sea salt helps reverse the signs of aging such as wrinkles, and it also contains other minerals that can moisturize and smoothen your skin so that it looks and feels much younger no matter your age.
