When I first saw the first of many white hairs on my head, I realized that I was getting old. Sure, my skin still looked as smooth and young as it was during my teen years, but I knew I was on borrowed time.
I also saw friends and families aging, and the signs were very obvious. Smooth skin now had fine lines and toned jaws now sagged downwards. Most of them were my own age, and I worried.
I was worried that Mother Nature and Father Time will soon catch up to me, and that my youthful looks will slowly be stolen away from me. Soon, I will look elderly, and thereβs nothing I can do about it.
There was a time when I believed that beauty products are the key to anti-aging. I used creams, drank the latest in fad drinks that promised years off your face, all of those miracle products on the TV and Internet.
It as an addiction for me, and I was consumed by the hunt for the ultimate anti-aging solution.
Now, I am a bit older and wiser, and as I and the people around me aged, I soon developed a new perspective about the anti-aging movement.

Aging is Inevitable
If we are lucky, we can live up to eighty years of more. Now, think of anyone who has lived up to eighty. How did they look? Did they look fine for their age? Thatβs great!
Now look for photos of them at eighty-five, or ninety, or even older than that. Did their looks change? Did they have more lines on their face? Is their skin sagging? The answer is probably yes.
Many celebrities or business tycoons who live upwards to seventy or eighty have resources that normal people do not have. Look for their photos throughout the years and you will see that they, too, age.
It is an inevitable process. We cannot fight Father Time. While we may be able to slow it down, time will inevitably win the war. We can look great well beyond middle age, but itβs a slippery slope from there.
It is a Life-Long Process
Imagine waking up at forty and seeing those wrinkles becoming more obvious. You can start using all the beauty products you now, drink lots of water, and get lots of exercise, but all that will be in vain.
If your goal is to slow down aging, then do all that. If you want to reverse the effects of skin aging and look like those your own age who have started an anti-aging regimen years ago, then youβre out of luck.
Anti-aging is a life-long process. It is also a race where the opponent gets faster and faster while you go slower and slower. If you want to look young, then you should have run sooner.
This means that you should have done all that was needed to delay the skinβs aging process as soon as possible. Unfortunately, when you start with your healthy habits define how young or how old you will look.
No Amount of Beauty Products Can Stop Aging
Some people think that beauty products can help stop time and reverse the effects of aging. Some believe that there is a product or chemical out there that is the equivalent of the fountain of youth.
Unfortunately, no such element that can reverse skin-aging exists. Otherwise, the company that patents it can pretty much own the world.
Anti-aging does not work like a reverse button where you can rewind the state of your skin. At best, it can be used to slow down the scenes, and that will take constant work.
Finding the right products that best suit you and making sure that you use them indefinitely and consistently can help in your anti-aging effort. However, you canβt find the secret to youth in a bottle or tube.
While you have time on your side, make the effort to take care of your skin and body. Your future self will thank you some day, guaranteed.
Going Under the Knife is Not an Option
There is such a thing as aging gracefully, and resorting to surgery is definitely not the way to go about it. Not only is it unnatural, but it would be rare to get the desired effects.
Surgical treatments to keep young has a steep curve where the more surgeries you have, the less beneficial will be its effects. If you donβt want to be a caricature of your old self, donβt go down this path.
Find celebrities who have had cosmetic surgeries. Find an image of them before having had work done and compare them. Which one looked better in your opinion? For some, the natural look is the answer.
If nature intended us to not have wrinkles, eye bags, and crowβs feet as we age, then it wouldnβt happen. Unfortunately, this is not the case, and surgeries would only make things more unnatural.
Science can only do so far to preserve your youthful looks. However, if your method of anti-aging involves scalpels or tubes, then it is best to steer away.
Laughter is the Best Medicine
One of the things that made me change my entire perspective about anti-aging is how diverse differences are between people who look young and old but are of the same age.
Taking into account different factors such as habits or lifestyle, it can be really difficult to determine just what defines how young or how old you will look like as you age.
So, all that we can do is laugh, for two main reasons. The first reason is that laughter is a natural youth rejuvenate. It helps exercise the facial muscles and it helps release anti-aging hormones in the brain.
Secondly, we can just laugh at the fact that, no matter what we do, we will grow old. Our skin quality will recede slowly but surely, as sure as the sun sets in the west.
Itβs a fact of life, and it is the beauty of life. All we can do with that truth is smile and enjoy our looks, and our lives, while it lasts.
