All the amazing benefits of Dead Sea salt and mud are not hearsay; they are validated by scientists and experts. Dead Sea products can do wonders to your skin, but that’s not all, they can also alleviate a number of diseases, such as osteoarthritis, psoriasis, and rheumatism.
Except for some bacteria and algae, no other living organisms can survive in the Dead Sea. You might think it’s a curse, but it actually made the Dead Sea water unique. There are no other bodies of water like the Dead Sea and the mineral contents of its waters are absent in other seas and oceans.
Scientists are abuzz in learning what this one-of-a-kind salt and mud can do to our skin and overall health. Moreover, a research center based in Israel was launched to explore Dead Sea’s fragile ecosystem – it explores the area’s formation, tectonic structure, seismic activity and how it affects the lives of people in its surrounding areas.
Let’s take a look at the natural wonders of Dead Sea according to scientists:
The Therapy of Rheumatic Illness with Medical Bathing Salts from the Dead Sea
This study was published in Acta Medica Empirica and was carried out by Dr. P. Engel from the Sanitarium Clinic of Mayan bad in Germany. It was performed on 60 patients experiencing rheumatic discomfort that are not responsive to the typical balneotherapy of the clinic. Each patient was given Dead Sea salt bath three times a week and was treated for 4 weeks. The duration of bath was 20 minutes, using 2.5% salt concentration and 37 °C water temperature.
Roughly, 72.6% of the patients reported very good therapeutic results; 10.2% experienced moderately well results, while 13.5% didn’t experience any improvement of symptoms.
Climatotherapy at the Dead Sea: an effective treatment modality for atopic dermatitis with significant positive impact on quality of life.
Scientists from Department of Dermatology at Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem, Israel performed climatotherapy to 49 adult patients with Atopic Dermatitis. Patients were given sea baths and increased sun exposure from 2009-2010.
After the treatment, the severity of AD was evaluated using the SCORED Index and patients showed improved skin condition and quality of life by 39 points.
Treatment of Psoriasis at The Dead Sea Dermatology Clinic
This study analyzed the 1448 records of psoriasis patients treated at a Dead Sea dermatology clinic. Patients’ treatment response and demographic characteristics were evaluated. The results are promising: 88% of patients showed 80-100% clearing and more than half of the patients showed complete clearing.
Salt from the Promised Land Helps Psoriasis Patients
Another study from Germany, performed by Dr. J. Arndt, evaluated the effect of Dead Sea bath salts on patients with psoriasis. There were 50 patients aged between 14-77 years. Controlled salt treatments were done: partial baths using 10% salt solution and 2 kg of salt were dissolved in water at 27 °C temperature for full baths. Duration of baths lasted for 20 minutes.
Patients reported diminished symptoms after a week. After 4 weeks, 27 patients showed complete healing and 22 patients experienced marked impressive improvement. All 50 patients tolerated the procedure well.
